President Trump has blamed DEI for the largest aviation tragedy on US soil in 23 years. The man doesn’t waste time getting to turn every human tragedy to his own advantage.
In his inimitable jumbled syntax he cited, MSNBC reports, “efforts by the FAA to hire individuals with disabilities, including dwarfism, missing limbs and intellectual disabilities…. A group within the FAA determined that the workforce was too white, then they had concerted efforts to get the administration to change that and to change it immediately…. This was in the Obama administration.” Asked how he could be so sure diversity played a role in the crash when he acknowledged himself the air traffic controllers may not have done anything wrong, he told reporters it was because he has “common sense.”
Let’s stop and think about which other “great men” Mr. Trump can stand shoulder to shoulder with.
Nero fiddles while Rome burns.
People are dead, families are devastated, and in the MAGA headquarters called his brain, the leader of the American people plays dedicatedly on his favorite fiddle: blame people who are different from rich white men for all the ills of the world.
Hitler moblizes Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Bruckner, and Wagner
He wants to stir the masses in a musical language that’s “true” Germanic, while concentration camp chimneys sigh out Jewish agony.
Christopher Columbus exults in “finding the Indies.”
His crew run amok and massacre the indigenous people on the lands he “discovers.”
Peter the Hermit leads thousands of French paupers into the First Crusade of the Poor People.
His untrained, barely armed, and unorganized followers are killed brutally by the enemy Turks, leaving him practically the sole survivor, and he then lies about the “vision” that made him organize the Crusade.
Rasputin, “Lover of the Russian Queen,” controls the Russian empress to a degree that intensifies Bolshevik wrath against the Romanovs.
It takes multiple efforts to kill Rasputin by multiple means, any of which would have killed another human being immediately. Ahem.
The British empire’s architects, who rely on “Divide and Conquer” to weaken those they govern.
They suction India’s wealth into their own coffers, rule arbitrarily, and proclaim they are “saving” the savages from themselves.
Louis XIV, the Sun king of France, establishes the “ton” for the French monarchy by eating and dressing for a public audience to establish his "aura” and proclaiming the Divine Right of Kings while his subjects starve and die in wars, one of which is meant to establish his grandson’s right to the Spanish throne. (NB: this one is a particularly fertile comparable, since, as the Encyclopedia Britannica puts it, “For 54 years Louis devoted himself to his task eight hours a day; not the smallest detail escaped his attention. He wanted to control everything from court etiquette to troop movements, from road building to... the nobles… [whom] Louis lured to his court, corrupted with gambling, exhausted with dissipation, and made their destinies dependent on their capacity to please him. Etiquette became a means of governing.” I wonder, is Mar-a-Lago with its famous oligarch dinners the Versailles of the United States?
Vlad III of Wallachia, known for impaling and boiling his enemies.
Kept his people safe from those “dirty foreigners,” especially Muslims, though.
I’m sure I’ve missed a few other “great leaders” who symbolically cannibalized their own people piously, pouting, gobbledygooking, and wobbling their chins at every chance to find opportunities for self-aggrandizement and furthering their own agendas. Please add to the list if you like.
In sad memory.
